Why choose our Soy Candles?
Sacred Soy Candles proudly offers high-quality candles made with domestically sourced ingredients. With the infusion of premium quality fragrance oils and our special wooden wicks, you can enjoy the aromas you love along with the comforting sounds of a warm crackling fire. We proudly hand-pour each and every one of our candles here in the United States of America. Our candles are made with 100% soy wax, an all-natural vegetable wax that is derived from soybeans ( a renewable resource) farmed in the US, unlike paraffin wax – a petroleum based wax – that is found in the majority of candles on the market today. Our candles are clean and even burning (after burning, just compare the black ring around the top of your non-soy candle container to the clean, clear glass of our of our containers!). With the all-natural ingredients, and the love and care put into each of our candles, you can’t go wrong with choosing Sacred Soy Candles for adding comfort to your home!
While paraffin wax is used to make more than 95 percent of candles, soy candles are often considered a better alternative. The wax in soy candles is a vegetable wax made from soybean oil, but on top of being more organic candles, soy candles still share both a similar smell and look to the common paraffin candles.
The soybean-based wax comes from the refining process of soybeans getting rolled into flecks. During this process, oil is extracted and hydrogenated, which saturates the unsaturated fatty acids commonly present in oil. Once at room temperature, it then turns into a solid wax. This wax is biodegradable and can be cleaned up easily with soap and water.
Soybeans are a renewable resource grown in many parts of the U.S. and can be used to create natural, more candles, which contrasts to the non-renewable resource petroleum-based paraffin candles. Paraffin-based candles are derived from a refined gasoline product, which is nonrenewable, and can release carcinogenic substances in the air while burning.
So, are soy candles better than their competition?
Soy wax candles burn much cleaner than their paraffin counterparts, as significantly less black soot is collected in the jar of a soy candle compared to the common candle. The amount of black petro-carbon soot released by regular paraffin candles can even get on walls, ceilings, or other surfaces near the flame. The amount of soot created by natural candles with a soy wax base is almost entirely confined to the jar, and even that is significantly less than a paraffin candle as they are completely petro-carbon soot free. Burning a soy candle instead of the alternative also ensures no toxins will be released in the air, as they are non-toxic, more organic candles. Soy wax candles are also biodegradable, making a soy candle an investment that benefits the environment.
One of the benefits of soy candles is the longevity of their burn, as they typically last longer than a paraffin candle, even at the same size/amount of wax, some even burning up to 50% longer than regular candles. The cooler burning temperature and slower burning time both factor into how long a soy candle can last. So even if a soy candle is more expensive than a similar sized paraffin or beeswax candle, it will last longer, making it a better investment.
The better-quality, improved smell of natural, scented soy candles is another advantage they have over competition, as they more effectively hold onto the scent provided by essential oils. Since they also burn slower, they don’t release an intense or instant wave of strong smells. Instead, the smell from scented soy candles comes much more gradually and measuredly. Natural candles made from soy are typically more aesthetically pleasing, as they hold onto color extremely well.
However, all soy candles are not created equally, so consumers should check the label or contact the manufacturer to ensure there are no included paraffin wax additives or blends. Consumers should look for “all-natural” soy candles, as these are the most pure and best soy candles, so they ensure customers all the aforementioned soy candle benefits.
The idea for soy wax candles came from a group of Purdue University students in 1996. Due to a project, the college students had to develop an organic candle for birthdays using only a renewable resource, so they decided to try the oil from soybeans. Once the students found a way to solidify the soybean oil and turn it into an organic candle, they entered it into a competition held by the Indiana Soybean Development Council and Purdue’s Department of Agronomy and won. This marked the beginning of organic soy candles from soy wax, within the candle making industry and soy wax candle production has been growing ever since.
Some great soy wax candles for sale include The Soi Company’s Soi Candles, Pet House Soy Candles, Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day Soy Candle, and Sacred Soy Candles and are the best soy candles you can buy.
Many vegan candles are made from soy wax, as they are natural candles that do not contain any type of animal products, unlike beeswax candles that are made from animal by-products. A few companies you can buy soy candles from (that are also vegan candles) include Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day Soy Candle, Naturally Me’s 100% Pure Soy Candle, Earthly Body’s Suntouched 3-in-1 Soy Massage Candle, and Sacred Soy Candles. The natural plant-base of soy candles, and all of their aforementioned benefits, has made them a popular choice for many different types of consumers, such as those looking for vegan candles, longer burning candles, and a more natural and clean option. Soy candles are, in our opinion, the best choice there is!
